There are many different
life support systems available for your aquarium. Aquatic Creations
will create the proper system for you and your fish.
A basic system consists
of: Water pumps with ceramic shafts for salt water, canister
filters with micron pleated cartridges, an ultraviolet sterilizer
with a stainless steel housing (not plastic), a chiller to keep
constant temperature, and, if possible, a protein skimmer to
remove dead protein matter. The size of your aquarium will determine
the number of water pumps and canisters needed to properly filter
your aquarium water.
Closed Canister
System
A closed canister system
is similar to that of a swimming pool system. Aquarium water
is pumped through a micron-pleated cartridge and returned back
into your aquarium.
This system requires the
incorporation of an under gravel filter system to allow denitrifying
bacteria to colonize in your aquarium's gravel bed. This natural
bacteria is essential to keeping a healthy aquarium by digesting
extra food matter and fish waste.
Wet-Dry Filter
System
A Wet-Dry system has the
sound of a waterfall. This system uses an overflow pre-filter
for your aquarium. Aquarium water passes through the pre-filter
then trickles over the bio-ball filter media. With a Wet-Dry
system, denitrifying bacteria colonizes on the bio-balls, eliminating
the need for an under gravel filter system. For every ten gallons
of water you need one gallon of bio-balls (A 100-gallon aquarium
requires 10 gallons of bio-balls). This system creates a surface
area three times greater than that of a conventional system.
Surface area is very important in marine aquariums. With this
system your aquarium's water quality will have a stable dissolved
oxygen count and greater gas exchange.
Living Rock System
The living rock system
is similar to the Wet-Dry system. Living rock, rather than bio-balls,
is used to colonize a bacteria bed, eliminating the need for
an under gravel filter system. The living rock system uses an
overflow pre-filter and produces the sound of a waterfall. This
system can be sensitive to some fish medications, as living
rock contains millions of live organisms that may be harmed
by some medications.
Algae Scrub System
The algae scrub system
is the most efficient way to remove nitrates from your aquarium.
An Eco-Wheel eliminates all harmful ammonia, nitrites and nitrates
from your aquarium's water. No other system can naturally eliminate
nitrates, harmful toxins not found in our oceans. The Eco-wheel
system uses living algae to naturally purify your aquarium's
water, eliminating the need for carbon resins, poly filters,
and nitrate removers. Your aquarium will be silent when this
system is located in another area.
